Belgian Betting Round 5: Standard look good once again

Each week, BeNeFoot will bring you some interesting bets as the season progresses. Here are our top three picks for this weekend.

Club Brugge – KAA Gent X2 @ 1.76 (6/10)

Club Brugge versus KAA Gent is always a tense match particuarly as many Blauw-Zwart fans hail from Gent itself. Club Brugge had a very difficult start of the season being knocked out of Europe by Slask Wroclaw but are doing well in the league so far with ten points from four games. Their opponents meanwhile have so far failed to reproduce their improved form at the back end of last season (Standard aside) but will be looking to take the scalp of a Club side missing the likes of De Bock (again due to suspension!), Vadis and Victor Vázquez although Lior Refaelov and Maxime Lestienne are fit.  Coach Fernandez is still looking to find the best team and won’t be at full strength either but will go into this game on the back of a major confidence boost that was the miraculous win over Lierse last time out.

Lierse SK – Waasland-Beveren OVER 2.5 goals @ 1.98 (6/10)

Both teams will go for a win here. Waasland-Beveren have stated their intention this season to look to dominate games, even against the better sides as they grow in stature at this level. Lierse have had a poor start to the season and are eager to give something back to their fans. Their coach Stanley Menzo was very unhappy after their defeat last week against Gent and won’t accept coming out of this weekend’s game empty-handed. Both clubs are vulnerable at the back so OVER 2.5 goals @ 1.98 looks a very good bet.

Standard Liège wins against Mons @ 1.70 (7/10)

Standard played in the Europa League this week against Minsk. I know it’s dangerous to bet on teams who already played a mid-week match but this Standard side find the net with ease. Mons are struggling at the start of this season and head coach Enzo Scifo has already asked for some quality players to improve his squad. Mons really needs some reinforcements or Play Off 3 will be their future. The coach of Standard, Guy Luzon, will no doubt stick to his commitment to rotate the squad between the two competitions, so whichever side he puts out on the park should be fresh and confidence is high in Liège.
