Belgian Cofidis Cup: 1/4 finals (1st leg)

The Cofidis Cup is losing his popularity. In most countries winning the Cup is nothing more then a prestigious achievement. It’s nice to win it but the domestic and European competitions are more important, and financially more interesting. This week, KAA Gent played KV Kortrijk in the beautiful Ghelamco Arena and only 7300 seats were sold. A cup match between Gent and Kortrijk should and could bring more people to the stadium.

After the first leg, there’s still a chance for every club to proceed to the next round. Sporting Lokeren did best by beating second division club Westerlo, who played at home in the first leg, with 0-1. Also KAA Gent and Zulte Waregem won their match with 1-0, but at home. Racing Genk surprisingly drew at home against KV Oostende, 0-0.

1/4 finals 1st Leg:

Racing Genk – KV Oostende 0-0

Westerlo (II) – Sporting Lokeren 0-1

Junior Dutra 0-1

KAA Gent – KV Kortrijk 1-0

Yaya Soumahoro 1-0

Zulte Waregem – Cercle Brugge 1-0

Davy De fauw  1-0
