Belgium u21 2-0 Cyprus u21: Pre-match problems overcome in professional performance

Belgium’s under-21 side got their Euro 2015 qualifying campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win over Cyprus in Leuven last night. An early strike from Paul-Jose Mpoku and a Maxime Lestienne penalty were enough to seal the three points in front of a healthy crowd of almost 40000 at Den Dreef, home of OH Leuven. Johan Walem’s preparations for the match had been hit when Standard Liège duo Ibrahima Cissé and Michy Batshuayi were sent home for a major breach of discipline at the weekend. Cissé has now since apologised for his part in the incident on Twitter.

Belgium u21: Koen Casteels, Jonathan Vervoort, Michaël Heylen, Laurens De Bock, Bruno Godeau, Junior Malanda, Dennis Praet, Paul-José Mpoku, Maxime Lestienne (Hannes van der Bruggen 86’), Thorgan Hazard (Dylan De Belder 86’), Igor Vetokele (Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco 77’)
