Betting on the Jupiler Pro League 2013-2014

The football competition in Belgium starts this weekend. Each week, Benefoot will bring you some interesting bets as the season progresses. Here’s our top three picks for the opening day.

Standard Liège will end above Zulte Waregem at the end of the competition @ 1.65 (8/10)

This is a long term bet with a lot of value. Zulte Waregem had a very good season in 2012-2013 and ended runners-up behind Anderlecht. Standard Liège had a poor season for a big club and played until the last game for a European ticket. This season things will be different for both clubs. Zulte Waregem has already lost Delaplace and they will probably also lose Malanda. Both players were the heart of the team last season. Standard Liège kept their talented young players as Batshuayi, Ezekiel and Vainqueur and bought some experience with Igor De Camargo. Standard Liège is one of the title contenders for next season in the Jupiler Pro League.

Anderlecht – Lokeren: away team scores @ 1.45 (6/10)

Anderlecht will miss central defender Cheikhou Kouyaté as the Congolese international is suspended for two games. Anderlecht will have to play with a youngster from their academy at the back for cover, with Leander Dendoncker the probable replacement. The young defender/midfielder is a very promising player but Anderlecht will miss the experience and pace of Kouyaté against Lokeren.

Waasland-Beveren – AA Gent: away team wins @ 1.90 (7/10)

Waasland-Beveren could become one of the revelations this season. The problem for coach Glen De Boeck is that Waasland-Beveren has bought almost 20 players so far. A lot of quality but too much quantity in our opinion. De Boeck will need some time to figure out which eleven players suits his tactics best. AA Gent at the other hand is very stable and only “lost” Christian Brüls who went on loan to Nice. The only dangerous thing for Gent could be the transfer soap opera of Ilombe Mboyo. The Belgian striker is a very important player for the club. The return of El Ghanassy, who played fantastic in the pre season games, gives the club a creative boost.
