Provisional Netherlands squad for Under 21 European Championships released
Netherlands Under-21 boss Cor Pot has revealed his provisional squad for the Under 21 European Championship which will take place in Israel this summer.
The Jong Oranje coach has released a list of 40 players, which will then be cut down to 23 and released on Friday 17th of May. The final squad will meet up three days later to begin preparations for the competition.
Pot’s side will play their final friendly before the competition against Australia on 27th May. Their first group game in the competition will be against Germany on 6th June before they face Russia and then Spain.
The only noticeable absentee from the squad is Jean-Paul-Boetius, who is unavailable because he will undergo surgery and will be out of action for several months. PSV’s Memphis Depay has been drafted in to replace the 18-year-old forward.
The squad consists of several top Eredivisie players as well as Bram Nuytinck of Anderlecht, Benfica’s Ola John and Borussia Monchengladbach forward Luuk de Jong.
Confidence in Netherlands is high that this team can proceed to the latter stages of the competition and many even believe this exciting young team can go on to win the competition outright.
